Pinch Hitting For Jane Austen...

I had a lot of fun during my just concluded trip, but there were some trouble spots. One of them was me trying to make Mansfield Park an enjoyable read. I made it to the one third mark during my trip, and then I realized the story was like Seinfeld: Much ado about nothing.

I'm not kidding when I say this. The only thing memorable after 150 plus pages was that Fanny Price moved. The last time I was this bored to tears while reading a book was Hillary Clinton's biography that was published right after she lost the 2016 Presidential Election.

Starting this weekend I'll be reading the backup plan, aka Pablo Neruda's Residence On Earth. I got the idea to read this from Esmae. She mentioned she was reading one of his books about a month ago, and early in our relationship she said she was reading Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass. After enjoying Leaves myself, I think it's a safe bet I'll go 2 for 2 with her poetry book suggestions.

The book is bilingual, meaning the original Spanish version appears first and then the English translation. This should be a quick read, and then I have Craig Davidson's The Midnight Ghost Club waiting in the wings to finish out the month of October. That was a Barnes & Noble $5 book when you make a purchase at the Starbucks Cafe, and I have yet to go wrong with any of those quick reads.
