That's Not A Bronco

A few days ago I learned an expensive lesson that modding a 1/30 scale Ford Bronco shouldn't happen. I won't go too deep into details, but my first mods were to fix its defects and then when I tried to upgrade everything else it became a sob story of stripped screws. I was actually more furious at the cumulative six hours I wasted rather than the money.

So... yesterday I picked up this pink Axial SCX24 Base Camp truck to become my indoor rock crawler.

With the stickers I've accumulated from various Axial and Injora kits it's already beginning to look racy.

In its stock form, it's quite the climber when it comes to eyeglass, watch, makeup brush and toothbrush travel cases. Unlike the 1/30 scale Bronco, this 1/24 scale truck ran perfectly out of the box.

A slew of upgrade parts will start arriving tomorrow, and so the the process begins anew. Rims. Tires. Axles. High clearance suspension parts. Driveshafts. Motor. Transmission. Servo. Steering links. LED lights to install in those holes in the front bumper.

I'm so excited to start modding that I also splurged on a set of 3D printed small rocks for it and its big brother Dodge Power Wagon to climb.

Perhaps I should name them?
