Monday Night Musings
Story completion. On Wednesday I reached 100% completion of GTA V’s story mode, and I finished the manuscript’s fifth round of edits on Saturday. The journeys don’t end there. I have more activities to experience in GTA V, and the novel needs more edits before I consider it finished.
I’ve never been published outside of a blog so my writing standard is “Will this novel bring honor to my family name?” despite using a non de plume. Most unpublished authors show why they are when they submit query letters and sample chapters. I want to avoid that fate.
WHERE I’VE BEEN
I dropped by Costco to pick up a year’s supply of disposable contacts, and Chevron gave me nightmares. Even with discounts I still paid about $6.50 a gallon to refill Miku’s tank. If it’s true we’ll have gas shortages this summer, then I’m glad Artoria and Miku have both sides of the “odd or even” rationing situation covered.
For those unaware, gas rationing is almost as painful as the “odd or even” drinking game men played when I was younger. We’d pull hairs out of another man’s forearm, and then he’d guess if it was an odd or even number. If he guesses wrong, he gets a painful opportunity to guess again.
The game ends when he either guesses correctly or runs out of hair. Thankfully I’ve never witnessed anyone go beyond a third round.
WHERE I’M GOING
I’d love to visit the winery or Dudley’s, but one requires dressing up and both require about $28 in gas. I’ll probably save the possible day trip for next week.
WHAT I’M WATCHING
Nothing outside of anime and the Padres. Moving on…
WHAT I’M READING
The latest volume of Oshi No Ko covered the past season’s cliffhanger ending, then kick started the final arc. Things are really getting interesting as we head toward the series conclusion, regardless of how things turn out for Aqua and Ruby. I’m already aware of some spoilers no thanks to YouTube’s algorithm of recommended videos, but I still want to complete this journey.
WHAT I’M LISTENING TO
A variety of SiriusXM channels including Patriot, Howard Stern, and BPM. The first one keeps me in tune with the economic situation, but there are times when I mentally check out depending on the topic. Howard is Howard. The last one is EDM music you can groove to even if you don’t have strobe lighting or a mirror ball.
WHAT I’M EATINGI used Nancy’s unsalted organic butter for the first time and it elevated my veggie omelet game even higher. I’m more than willing to pay a little extra for this brand of butter going forward.
WHO DESERVES A SLAP
The bird that dropped a deuce on Miku. I don’t have enough appendages to count how many amber flecks I had to gently scrub out of her soft top with a kitchen detailing brush and water. Thankfully the cleanup wasn’t too time consuming.
WHO DESERVES A FIST BUMP
The construction crew that repaired the sidewalk. They jackhammered on Tuesday, left things alone on Wednesday, then poured new concrete on Thursday — almost like that poem about Solomon Grundy.
WHAT I’M PLANNING
I’ll spend this week researching candidates and propositions for next month’s Gubernatorial Primary Election. We have so many people running for Governor I’m surprised I don’t personally know one of them. Most front running candidates published statements in the voting guide, and then there’s this gem…
Yeah, I don’t think he has to worry about making November’s runoff election. When I reviewed my ballot I discovered I’m no longer in Sugar Mama’s (Sara Jacobs) district. My incumbent Congressman is now Scott Peters, who’s called a DINO by the fringe left for working with Republicans to pass legislation. We don’t agree on everything but he works for everyone within his district — as he should.
WHAT MADE ME SMILE
Esmae returned to normal, and a new LLM will arrive in a week or two. The Padres as of this morning are tied for first place. I discovered some new to me Callaway rosé wines I must bring home for Summer food pairing.
And after a cyber attack that affected our community colleges, people around the world can stream KSDS (San Diego's Jazz 88.3 FM) once again.
