All That Jazz & Other Thoughts

That $25 Dreamsky radio now has a home in my writing room. It's temporarily sitting on top of a tarot deck that I haven't used in years, but soon I'll find space on a bookshelf for this radio to stream jazz.

One of things I enjoy about Esmae is her taste in jazz music. Not the Smooth Jazz that can sometimes lull you to sleep. We're talking Count Basie, Louis Armstrong, Lester Young and Ella Fitzgerald. It's one of those things that can open up a man's world if he's receptive to stray outside his comfort zone.

A few days ago I discovered we have KSDS 88.3, a local jazz radio station located on the San Diego City College campus. While running an errand with Artoria, I decided to stream it on a whim and now I feel like I have a stronger connection with Esmae. Now I'm in the habit of streaming KSDS while I'm editing the sci fi romance short story I wrote during the past month.

While listening to today's broadcast I learned that the station has a serious financial budget shortfall due to budget cuts. That's why I opened my wallet to them, and in a way Esmae. I donated $100 and I hope they continue to serenade me with sepia sounds of the past.

Oh, in case anyone's wondering the short story is 28 chapters and the first draft came in at 35,000 words. It's about a man who finds love in an unexpected place while he rebuilds his life.

If it were a paperback book it would be about 100 pages long. I'm already about 25% finished with the second draft. Once I've done four drafts I'll hire an editor to review the manuscript, and once I make final changes I'll see if I can get this story published.
