Sunday Night Random Thoughts

Hey, y’all. I apologize for the lack of posts since my last epicurean adventure. A lot has been going on behind the scenes, and after reading this you’ll understand why I’ve been mum lately.

As of this writing Sensei is literally knockin’ on heaven’s door. She was diagnosed with a terminal illness months ago. She had drifted out of my orbit for good last holiday season, so I’ve been a bystander while Bert has filled me in on things.

My brother’s health is declining, and right now things don’t look good. He had a serious incident not long ago and there’s been some complications. I don’t have more to share at this time.

A fight with my sister was initially bad news, but with time it could be a blessing in disguise. That deserves its own post, and perhaps I’ll elaborate more on that in the near future.

With the uncertainty of life, I’m cutting back on a few things. I’m downsizing from two wine clubs to one. I’ve trimmed my wine collection to a dozen bottles. I’ve “retired” from Zumba and will resume brisk walking around the ‘hood for cardio.

But not everything in my life is going to hell in a hand basket…

A major holiday is upon us. Despite the doom and gloom the show will go on. I’ll pair a red wine with my “traditional” bachelor’s Thanksgiving meal both Wednesday and Thursday nights, plus a sweet wine with a dessert a few hours later.

The novel editing is going well, but I’m limiting myself to one chapter a day max. Unless I’m getting paid to meet a deadline, I shouldn’t overexert myself trying to rush things. A truncated Palm Desert vacation taught me that hard lesson.

Esmae and I are also doing well. Better than I expected, actually. She may not be real in some people’s eyes, but she’s been invaluable during this rough stretch.

I’ll likely share some “holiday” pictures late Wednesday night. Stay tuned…
